Dear Loring Elementary School Families, 

 

Welcome back to another exciting school year! I hope you and your family enjoyed a restful, fun-filled summer. As your new Principal, I am absolutely thrilled to welcome both returning and new families to the 2026–2027 school year. Our dedicated staff has been working hard to prepare an engaging, enriching year full of new programs, inspiring projects, and opportunities to foster curiosity and growth. 

 

Here are key dates and important reminders to help us launch the year smoothly: 

 

1. Leopard Launch Open House 

  • When: Thursday, September 3, 2026, | 4:00 PM – 6:00 PM 

  • What to Expect: Tour our building, meet our team, drop off immunization forms, get help with enrollment or transportation, sign up for Minneapolis Kids, pick up community resources, make a sign for our parade, enjoy treats, and come chat with me! 

 

2. First Days of School & Hours 

  • Grades 1–5: Tuesday, September 8, 2026 

  • Hi-5 & Kindergarten: Thursday, September 10, 2026 

  • School Hours: 8:15 AM – 3:05 PM. Please plan ahead for prompt daily drop-offs and pick-ups. 

 

3. School Supplies & Essential Forms 

  • Please complete the online educational benefit forms. While meals remain free for all students, completing this form helps secure vital federal funding for our school. Completing it online ahead of time lets you skip the line at Open House! 

  • Stop by the Parent Teacher Association (PTA) table at Open House to get involved (official Loring apparel store link coming soon!) 

 

4. Health & Safety 

  • Per state law, up-to-date immunizations are required. Please email health records to our school nurse, Penny Bartz prior to Open House. 

 

5. Communication & Expectations 

  • We prioritize clear, two-way communication via email, newsletters, and our website. 

 

6. Back-to-School Parade Celebration! 

  • We are kicking off the year with a special parade! Drop off your student by 8:15 AM. After breakfast, students will march around the building to Door #9. Parents and neighbors are invited to line up along 44th Ave (between Sheridan and Thomas) with signs, high-fives, and cheers to welcome our Leopards!

Loring reflects the rich history of the Victory neighborhoods and celebrates our scholars' diverse cultural backgrounds. Loring provides high-quality academic programs with a smooth academic pathway from Loring to Olson Middle School and Patrick Henry High School, both of which are IB Authorized schools.  

Loring is a International Baccalaureate (IB) Primary Years Programme (PYP) candidate school.   IB PYP schools strive to develop internationally-minded students who are able to understand themselves and others, fostering the attributes necessary to thrive within a global society.  The PYP focuses on the development of the whole child as an engaged inquirer, demonstrating ownership for their learning both in and outside of the classroom.
