Loring 2024-25 Budget Update

Loring 2024-25 Budget Update

Loring held a budget engagement meeting on Monday, March 11th.  We looked at the budget for 2024-25 compared to the budget from 2023-24.  Below is the information from the meeting:

Overview:

-Funding was up during COVID.  Those funds (ESSER) are going away.  Mpls is facing a significant deficit, as are many schools and urban schools.

- 2nd and 3rd grade have enough kids for 1.5 rooms each.  Loring is choosing to “fund up” so that Loring has 2 classrooms for 2nd and 3rd grade each.  This will result in smaller class sizes for 2nd and 3rd grade, potentially.

-Anticipated # students at Loring for 2024-25: 296

CHANGES:

-1 of 2 Hi5 classrooms will be cut: 1 teacher and 2 AEs

-Ms. King is leaving

-Ms. Shiela will be a social worker again

-Ms. Thompson will be a 5th grader teacher

-Increase: 1 School wide Intervention teacher

-Increase in Gifted and Talented funding (from .2 to .5 position)

-Cuts: Mr. Ernest and Mr. Pelt (they are excessed, which means cut from their positions)

-Hopefully both will reapply for their positions on July 1st, 2024 due to a shortage of gym and art teachers in MN

-Cut: 5th grade band (Mr. E will try to provide some version of band for 5th graders)

-Cut: Maestra Doris.  All world languages were cut in elementary and middle schools.

-Cut: Reading Intervention Triad - 3 teachers and 6 AEs

-Cut: Office Specialist: Patrice

-Cut: 1 Social Worker position: Sarah Haberman Ortiz

-Cut: Special Education Resource Teacher Dawn Banken

-Cut: Special Education Resource Teacher .5

-Cut: Autism Spectrum Program Prep Teacher .5

-Cut: AE Behavior: Cornelius Baxter
