Welcome to the 2025-26 school year!

Welcome back to school! Read the welcome letter for important information including the school supply list and our new SchoolCafe app.

Dear Loring Community,

Welcome to the 2025-2026 school year! We look forward to partnering with you this year to ensure your child’s/children’s success.

I am excited to start my 2nd year at Loring. Every year comes with new excitement for me, even after being in education for 37 years.  I have the honor of continuing to work for and with the Loring community as we grow our scholars academically, socially and emotionally.  Our team is looking forward to meeting both new and returning scholars and families as we begin this new year of learning.

The first day of school:

1st – 5th graders will begin on Tuesday, September 2

High 5 Kindergarten will begin on Thursday, September 4

School Hours: 8:25 a.m. to 3:05 p.m.

Open House:

Loring’s Open house will be on Thursday, August 28 from 4:00 to 6:00 p.m. Tables with different information will be set up around the school. Come meet our PTA (Parent Teacher Association), staff, get important information, and get a treat.

Scholar’s Classroom Assignment:

Classroom assignments will be posted by the office and by the cafeteria at Open House. If you are unable to attend the Open House classroom assignments will also be available after the Open House by calling 612 668-2060.

School Breakfast and Lunch Program:

  • All families are asked to fill out the Educational Benefits Form.
  • School breakfast is free for all students - students are welcome to eat breakfast at school every day.
  • Lunch is provided at no charge for all students again this year.
  • For questions about student lunch, please call 612-668-2060

All families need to complete the Education Benefits Form online before or during Open House. Regardless of your qualification for free/reduced lunch we ask all families to fill out the Educational Benefits Form each year. Families who fill out this form determine much of our funding. This funding is used to purchase books, instructional materials and provide additional academic support for our students. Thank you for taking the time to support our school!

You can fill out the form before open house here: SchoolCafe - Minneapolis Pubic Schools.

If you have an existing account, please click the top link, "Sign Into Your Account." If you are new to this system and need to "Create a New Account," the link will prompt you to enter information and save. From there, you will need to complete the information requested. Thank you for taking the time to complete this form even if you do not feel you would qualify for Educational Benefits

A few items to consider as we return to school:

  • PLEASE PUT YOUR CHILD’S NAME ON ALL PERSONAL BELONGINGS (shoes, book bags, pencil boxes, jackets, etc.). Every year our Lost and Found is overflowing and there are no names written on clothing articles. Please help us out by putting names on items.
  • School Supply List - Families can choose to bring these items in during our Open House or on the first day of school.
  • During the coming year, we urge your involvement in the education of your child so together we can help your child learn. All of us at Loring Community School invite your input and participation through conferences, PTA meetings, school activities, volunteering, or assisting your child with their homework.

Parent/Caregiver Drop Off/Pick Up:

If you need to pick up your scholar early or there is a change in transportation for the day, we ask that caregivers call the main office to request these changes before noon.  This gives the office time to safely plan for the changes and to notify all the staff involved.  Caregivers picking scholars up during the day will need to have a valid state ID or recognition by a Loring Staff member.

All families will receive a pickup number/window cling that should be placed on the lower right-hand side of the passenger car window.  This will act as your ID/safety measure to ensure that students are going home with the designated/assigned family members each day.  A picture of the pickup number/window cling on a cell phone is also permitted.  Such as for parents who will walk up, or by caregivers who don’t usually pick up students.

Drop Off – You can start dropping off your scholars along Sheridan Ave North/Door 6 starting at 8:15 in the morning.  Parents who wish to walk their scholars into the building will need to enter through door 9 (playground/main office) and sign in to move throughout the building.  If you arrive to drop off your scholar after 8:30, you will need to drop them off by door 9 (playground/main office).  If your student does not know how to use the intercom system at Door 9, please be sure to walk your student into the building.

Pick-Up – Families can drive or walk up to door 6 on Sheridan Avenue North starting at 2:55. Make sure you have your assigned number with you as this will act as your security ID for us to release your scholar.  Parents driving up should use 45th Avenue East and then turn right onto Sheridan Ave North.  Please stay in your vehicle and watch for staff who will motion you to pull forward.  It’s very helpful to have parents pull all the way forward.  This helps expedite kids getting to their family cars.  Families picking up via vehicle, be sure to have your sticker where the staff member can see it.  If someone is picking up who does not have a sticker, they will be instructed to park their vehicle and go to the main office to provide valid identification and to verify that they are on the emergency list.

Transportation:

  • Get the new My Ride app to request busing and track your student's route!
  • Children riding the school bus to school will receive a call, text, and email from our district Transportation Department with their student’s bus information.
  • For further information, please call the Transportation Department at 612-668-2300.
  • Please note the scheduled time and place that your child will be picked up.
  • Review the bus rules with your child before the first day of school.
  • Buses pick up and drop off on 44th Ave. North
  • Every student is required to have either written permission or verbal permission given to our office staff if there are any changes to their transportation schedule or you wish for them to go home with another student. If you need to make a change in your child’s pick-up routine, please notify the main office before Noon.

We hope to have our Scholar’s Handbook by Open House.  It will include more important information for families.

See you at the Open House!
