International Baccalaureate Primary Years Programme
Loring Elementary is a Candidate School* for the Primary Years Programme. This school is pursuing authorization as an
IB World School. These are schools that share a common philosophy—a commitment to high quality,
challenging, international education that Loring Elementary believes is important for our students.
*Only schools authorized by the IB Organization can offer any of its four academic programmes: the Primary
Years Programme (PYP), the Middle Years Programme (MYP), the Diploma Programme, or the Career-related
Programme (CP). Candidate status gives no guarantee that authorization will be granted. For further
information about the IB and its programmes, visit www.ibo.org
What is the Primary Years Programme (PYP)?
The PYP is a world-renowned curriculum framework that encourages students to be active learners, well-rounded individuals and engaged world citizens. The Primary Years Programme targets learners in preschool through fifth grade, giving them a global perspective and aims to create a relevant, engaging, challenging and significant educational environment for all children.
The PYP framework is based on understanding how children learn and how the brain works. It allows for flexibility in our choice of content as we work to achieve our school's standards, and it connects our school to a wider school and community network.
